Background

To assure timely, high-quality care, the trauma network in Quebec is designed as an integrated system of care from pre-hospital through specialized acute care and rehabilitation. To obtain and maintain their level of designation, trauma centers must meet a series of quality standards establish by the Institut national d’excellence en santé et en services sociaux (INESSS). In addition, they undergo periodic performance evaluation. This year, INESSS is beginning a new cycle of trauma centre evaluation focussing on process and outcomes and for the first time, low-value care
