TAC Conference Virtual Event being Offered November 16-20, 2020

TAC is offering 75% of the conference program that had to be cancelled in Halifax due to COVID-19, virtually now, the week of November 16-20, 2020. The program schedule is being put together now and our speakers are busy uploading their talks.  The live talks will be as follows:

Monday November 16th at 1300 Eastern-Fraser Gurd Lecture by Dr Homer Tien on ” Trauma Care in Remote Indigenous Communities in Canada”

Wednesday November 18th at 1300 Eastern- Murray Girotti Injury Prevention Lecture  by Dr Mariana Brussoni on “Risky Play & Building Resilience in Children”

Friday November 20th 1300 Eastern- International Lecture by Dr Conor Deasy on “Trauma in Ireland: Lessons Learned in our Journey to a Trauma System for Ireland.”

There are over 60 invited and oral abstract talks, and 38 posters being presented that will be pre-recorded.

The TAC Board of Directors has made the decision to keep the registration fees extremely low for this November event only, as a way to give back to our trauma community knowing it has been a very difficult year for so many health care providers due to COVID-19, and as way to let you see what TAC has to offer.  The rates for the April 2021 virtual event will be different. Fees make this a very affordable offering for both Members and Non-members. However, TAC members will continue to have access to the recorded talks after the week of November 16th while non-TAC members access will expire November 30th.  Not a TAC Member? JOIN NOW  to enjoy the benefits of membership year round.

Registration Rates:
MDs (includes Fellows, Residents, PhDs) $50
Non-Physicians (includes all others except students) $25
Students (Free)- To qualify you must be enrolled full time in a health care studies program and not licensed to practice in your field
Special Organizational Group Rates available:  Non-Physicians $500; MDs $1000 for a maximum of 50 registrants.  Talk to your Program Director or Manager to get in on this special group rate.

We will be opening registration  the week of Oct 26th, so please come back.

PAST CONFERENCE INFORMATION:

2020- Halifax-March 26-27, 2020

IMPORTANT NOTICE OF CANCELLATION OF TAC 2020 in Halifax

TO:  All Registered Delegates of TAC 2020 in Halifax

FROM:  TAC Board of Directors

Date:  March 11, 2020

Following extensive discussions and following recommendations to the Board of Directors of the Trauma Association of Canada (TAC) by Dr. Robert Strang (Nova Scotia Chief Medical Officer of Health) received late on March 10th, it is now clear that the TAC Annual Scientific Meeting and Conference scheduled March 25-27, 2020 in Halifax must be cancelled. This decision is a direct response to the evolving risk associated with COVID-19 and is motivated by our desire to protect both the public and the health care workers who would be attending the conference as delegates.

With regards to the pre-meeting courses and committee meetings:

  • All pre-meeting education courses and in-person committee meetings are cancelled.
  • For the AIME course scheduled for March 24, please contact Gail Chapman at gchapman@caep.ca as this course is run by the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP)
  • Accreditation Symposium – attempts will be made to reformat this as a virtual meeting or reschedule at a future date.
  • Committee and subgroup Chairs will be in touch as some of these meetings may be rescheduled as teleconferences or virtual meetings.
  • Annual General Meeting on March 26, 2020- will be rescheduled as a teleconference at a future date.

With regards to registration fees paid, refunds have been fully processed for all delegates and exhibitors.

Once again, we all share in the disappointment at this unfortunate and quickly evolving turn of world events.  It was the right thing to do.

Respectfully,

Dr. Lorraine Tremblay
TAC President (on behalf of the Board of Directors)
