Trauma Resuscitation in Kids (TRIK) course in Calgary March 2-3, 2019

Saturday Mar 2 08:00am - Sunday Mar 3 04:00pm
Calgary, Alberta, Canada -at the Alberta Children's Hospital Kid SIM Centre

Trauma Resuscitation in Kids (TRIK) course

This year TRIK is being held in conjunction with the TAC Annual Scientific Meeting and Conference (Feb 28-March 1, 2019) as a post-conference education course on March 2 & 3, 2019 (2 day course).

Trauma Resuscitation in Kids (TRIK) is a two-day simulation-based course. It is designed for health care providers in Canada and abroad who manage pediatric trauma patients, with a focus on the roles of team leader and team members.

The TRIK course is suitable for emergency physicians, pediatricians, general surgeons, pediatric surgeons, family physicians, critical care physicians, emergency nurses and respiratory therapists. It is an accredited Section 1 and 3 learning activity as defined by the Royal College’s Maintenance of Certification Program. We recommend that participants have current certification in advanced trauma life support (ATLS) before taking this course.

What you’ll learn

Starting from primary survey and initial resuscitation, the course takes an interactive approach to managing common and uncommon pediatric trauma cases.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to

  • describe the differences between adult and child pathophysiology,
  • conduct a primary and secondary survey for pediatric trauma cases,
  • recognize, diagnose and manage common trauma-related pediatric injuries,
  • recognize and consider ethical issues related to pediatric trauma,
  • interpret diagnostic images for pediatric trauma cases, and
  • determine the appropriate steps to prepare for the transport of a pediatric trauma patient.

CME: The TRIK course is an accredited simulation activity (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. It was approved by University of Ottawa’s Office of Continuing Professional Development on March 21, 2017 and it expires in March 2020. Remember to visit MAINPORT to record your learning and outcomes. You may claim a maximum of 13.0 hours (credits are automatically calculated).

Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert Royal College MOC credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Information on the process to convert Royal College MOC credit to AMA credit can be found at www.ama-assn.org/go/internationalcme.
