Dr James P Byrne-Annual Resident Trauma Paper Competition Winner at the Annual Meeting of COT in San Diego, California

The Trauma Association of Canada is pleased to congratulate Dr. James P Byrne as the winner of the Best Clinical Research Paper at the 39th Annual Resident Trauma Paper Competition held March 10th at the Annual Meeting of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons in San Diego, California, (Dr Avery B Nathens, Supervisor).

Dr Bryne & Dr Avery won with the study: "Timing of venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in severe traumatic brain injury:  A propensity-matched cohort study."

 Dr Byrne is a PGY-4 General Surgery Resident pursuing his PhD in Clinical Epidemiology at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.  Specific focuses of his research are currently on the Influence of Prehospital Trauma Systems of Care on Trauma Patient Outcomes and Trauma Center Performance, as well as Venous Thromboembolism Following Major Trauma.
