VISION:  Improve the lives of all those affected by or at risk of traumatic injury.

International Issues/Disasters Committee

Earthquake:  Nepal

On April 25th 2015, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake devastated Katmandu, Nepal and caused avalanches on Mount Everest. The earthquake could be felt in the Indian capital of New Delhi and as far as Bangladesh. Aftershocks in Nepal and India of the magnitude of 6.5-6.8 continued to shake the area with on-going destruction and loss of life. To date over 6000 people are dead and thousands left injured and or homeless with concern for a rising death toll. There is a growing need for water, food, clothing and shelter and for international aide as the country struggles to cope with the Disaster.

The Trauma Association of Canada Disaster/International Committee would like to express our deepest sympathies for all those affected. As concerned health professionals we would also like to assist our membership to obtain information about the event and provide relevant links to understand how we might help in disaster situations.
